History
Faculty of Service Industry: A Historical Overview
The Faculty of Service Industry originated from the establishment project of the Department of Service Industry and Language Innovation within the Faculty of Liberal Arts and Science, Kasetsart University, Kamphaeng Saen Campus.
The initial concept for this endeavor came from Associate Professor Dr. Anamai Damnetr, then affiliated with the Liberal Arts Discipline (currently the Department of Language and Culture Sciences) within the Faculty of Liberal Arts and Science. Dr. Damnetr proposed the establishment of the "Project for the Establishment of the Service Industry and Language Innovation Discipline (SILID)," which received approval from the 12/2551 meeting of the Faculty of Liberal Arts and Science Board on November 24, B.E. 2551 (2008).
Initially, the proposed entity was named the International Study Management Centre (ISMC). Subsequently, its name was changed three times as follows:
-
International Service Industry Study Center (ISIS): Approved by the 9/2552 meeting of the Faculty of Liberal Arts and Science Board on September 30, B.E. 2552 (2009).
-
Department of Service Industry (DSI): Approved by the 3/2553 meeting of the Faculty of Liberal Arts and Science Board on March 29, B.E. 2553 (2010).
-
Department of Service Industry and Language Innovation (DSIL): Approved by the 7/2553 meeting of the Faculty of Liberal Arts and Science Board on July 28, B.E. 2553 (2010).
It is noteworthy that the Project for the Establishment of the Department of Service Industry and Language Innovation (DSIL) submitted a request to elevate its status to a full department, along with other proposed departments within the Faculty of Liberal Arts and Science. However, this request was not approved by the Kamphaeng Saen Campus Board meeting in January B.E. 2554 (2011). Consequently, the Project for the Establishment of the Department of Service Industry and Language Innovation (DSIL) retained its status as an establishment project under the Faculty of Liberal Arts and Science.
